Lily Allen: “My dad used to steal from my mum”
British singer Lily Allen’s father, Keith Allen, used to steal his ex-wife’s expensive pots and pans to sell on the street, because he was so short on cash.
Lily used to accompany her father to Portobello Market in London, to help him sell off the stolen goods. Lily also witnessed her father split from her mother, when she was only four years old. She blamed money struggles for her parents’ divorce.
She says, “When my parents split up, my dad was completely skint. He’d come and pick me and my brother up and steal my mum’s Le Creuset pots and pans and make us go to the Portobello Market and sell them. But, we’d get moved on because we didn’t have a license.”
